Lambert Vet Supply, a distributor of veterinary supplies in the US, has signed an agreement to deploy 24 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from Locus Robotics through its newly-partnered warehouse network in Alabama.

The company has a long-standing logistics partnership with Körber Supply Chain.

The software-driven robots will be integrated with with Lambert’s existing K.Motion Warehouse Management System (WMS) in order to improve overall efficiency.

“We are experiencing record growth in both our consumer and professional pet-care e-commerce segments while navigating unprecedented and unpredictable labor challenges,” said Tammy Schmidt, VP and COO, Lambert Veterinary Supply.

“Being able to seamlessly integrate and ramp up and down, the Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) provides us with the needed flexibility and scalability to meet our growing e-commerce customer demand while maintaining a smaller dependable team of warehouse associates and reducing onboarding of new warehouse associates to minutes from weeks.”

The Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) was established to quickly adapt to fluctuating demand, and has reportedly led to Lambert improving both productivity and employee safety.

Some of the other benefits include minimal training for warehouse associates, ease of use through intuitive user interfaces and a reported reduction of walking distance by approximately 50%, which helps to reduce worker stress and fatigue.
